Hamilton Khaki Field Murph 38 mm White

The Hamilton Khaki Field Murph 38 mm White (H70405710) is a field watch from Hamilton: a 38 mm stainless steel case, 11.1 mm thick and 44.7 mm lug to lug, with an automatic Hamilton H-10 movement and 100 m water resistance.

Going by its 44.7 mm lug to lug, it should sit within the flat top of a wrist of about 6.1 inches (15.4 cm) or larger.

Research found it at $995 list in the US (checked October 2026) and about $735–780 used (October 2026).

Holden’s take

The 38 mm Murph surprisingly fits pretty well even on my 8-inch wrist, because Hamilton's Khaki watches look bigger than their case sizes. It fills the same role as my Khaki Field Auto 42 with more identity, and it's the one I'd look at first.

What the research found

These are the research’s judgments, scored against Holden’s priorities, not his own words.

Strengths

  • Distinctive dial identity — textured antique-white grained surface, black-outlined numerals and cathedral hands give it a character the standard Khaki Field lacks
  • Strong mechanical fundamentals for the money: H-10 with 80-hour power reserve, hacking, hand-winding and a Nivachron balance spring
  • Sapphire crystal with AR coating plus an exhibition caseback at under $1,000
  • 100m water resistance and a 20mm lug width make it a genuine strap-monster all-rounder
  • Uncoated stainless steel — no PVD or coloured coating to age badly over 30–50 years
  • Cheap and easy to maintain through the Swatch Group network with 10-year post-production parts availability

Weaknesses

  • The supplied embossed croc-pattern leather strap is the most criticized element across every source: stiff, cheap-feeling and slow to break in
  • Silver cathedral hands can visually merge into the bright white dial; beige lume on white is less legible than beige on black
  • No date and no bracelet option in this reference — the bracelet version costs $100 more (listed at $1,045)
  • Finishing is competent but plain: reviewers note the bracelet on the sibling reference feels generic for the money, and the H-10 is conservatively finished inside
  • Bezel and crown are polished, so light scratches will show on those surfaces (case itself is brushed)
  • Price has risen from $895 at 2024 launch to $995 now, narrowing the value gap to better-finished competitors
