Holden’s take

One of the cleanest value plays on my list, thin, tough and modern, with Mido's 80-hour movement. If I buy a Mido though, it's probably the TV Big Date, because it has more of Mido's own identity.

What the research found

These are the research’s judgments, scored against Holden’s priorities, not his own words.

Strengths

  • 9.9 mm thin automatic with 100 m WR and screw-down crown — a rare ergonomic combination
  • Full modern featureset: double-AR sapphire, sapphire exhibition caseback, quick-change integrated bracelet, Calibre 80/Nivachron
  • 44.86 mm lug-to-lug wears compact on nearly any wrist
  • Monochrome's verdict class: 'delivers on all fronts' at CHF 840 — among the cleanest value propositions in the integrated genre
  • Octagonal bezel and eight-sided crown give it a coherent geometric identity rather than a Genta paraphrase

Weaknesses

  • No stated micro-adjustment on the folding clasp (unverified either way)
  • Thickness reported as 9.9 mm (Monochrome) vs 10.2 mm (Gnomon) — still thin either way
  • New model with no long-term ownership record yet
