Seiko 5 Sports GMT SSK001
The Seiko 5 Sports GMT SSK001 (SSK001K1) is a GMT travel watch from Seiko: a 42.5 mm stainless steel case, 13.6 mm thick and 46 mm lug to lug, with an automatic 4R34 movement and 100 m water resistance.
Going by its 46 mm lug to lug, it should sit within the flat top of a wrist of about 6.2 inches (15.9 cm) or larger.
Research found it at $495 list in the US (checked August 2026) and about $360–574 used (August 2026).
This was my first real mechanical, the first watch I bought after I actually started researching, and for the price it's really solid. It's 42.5 mm but it looks small on my 8-inch wrist, because it's stacked tall with a bezel and a busy dial instead of spread out flat. The bezel is a bit finicky and the jubilee feels light and rattly, so a solid-link bracelet is next.

What the research found
These are the research’s judgments, scored against Holden’s priorities, not his own words.
Strengths
- One of the cheapest true mechanical GMTs on the market — category-defining value
- SKX-descended design with genuine Seiko identity, not an homage
- Wears far smaller than 42.5 mm thanks to 46 mm lug-to-lug
- Solid end links and improved bezel QC versus SKX era
Weaknesses
- Caller GMT on a friction (non-clicking) 24h bezel limits real travel utility
- Hardlex crystal, push/pull crown, 100 m WR — entry-grade execution
- Light stamped-feeling jubilee and clasp
- QC variance: review unit had GMT-hand misalignment
