What the research found

These are the research’s judgments, scored against Holden’s priorities, not his own words.

Strengths

  • El Primero 3600: in-house 5Hz column-wheel chronograph with a genuine 1/10th-second central hand driven straight off the escapement — elite engineering substance for the money
  • The tricolour ceramic bezel is a real technical feat (three separately fired ceramic sections joined into one seamless solid piece) and gives this reference its own identity within the Sport line
  • Bezel segments and subdials aligned by color/position — a coherent, ownable design idea rather than decoration
  • Well-proportioned 41mm sports chrono: lug curvature hides the 13.6mm thickness; balanced on mid-size wrists in two hands-on reviews
  • Practical specs for daily wear: 100m WR, sapphire front and back, 60h power reserve, hacking seconds
  • Attainable and actually buyable — direct from Zenith, unlike the Daytona it is endlessly compared against

Weaknesses

  • Crown and pushers do not screw down; pushers protrude slightly; 100m is rain/pool-splash territory, not swim-watch territory
  • Clasp is the weak link — 'less refined than the rest of the watch', micro-adjust only, no on-the-fly sizing; links need two screwdrivers
  • Noticeable heft after a full day on the wrist (Watch Advice)
  • Reading elapsed time requires coordinating bezel tenths + 60-second subdial + 60-minute subdial; light-grey counter can blend on light dials
  • Ceramic can crack or chip on hard impact, and the long-term durability of the three-piece joined bezel is explicitly unproven (Worn & Wound)
  • Steep price escalation: current claimed US retail $14,200 — the value case is strongest on the gray/used market
