Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 40 mm Gold PVD
The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 40 mm Gold PVD (T137.407.33.021.00) is an everyday sports watch from Tissot: a 40 mm 316L stainless steel case, 10.93 mm thick and 44 mm lug to lug, with an automatic Tissot Powermatic 80.111 movement and 100 m water resistance.
Going by its 44 mm lug to lug, it should sit within the flat top of a wrist of about 6.0 inches (15.2 cm) or larger.
Research found it at $950 list in the US (checked August 2026) and $665 on the street (August 2026).
This is my fun one, a full gold statement watch with a Powermatic 80 and that waffle dial, and it's a lot of watch for the money. I'm realistic about the gold PVD though, because over the years it can wear through to steel at the edges, so a plain steel PRX is the safer long-term buy.

What the research found
These are the research’s judgments, scored against Holden’s priorities, not his own words.
Strengths
- Authentic 1978 Tissot lineage — a real design story, not an homage to anyone else
- Excellent mechanical fundamentals: Powermatic 80.111 with Nivachron, 10.9 mm case, exhibition back
- Waffle dial (T137 Powermatic) and integrated case/bracelet execution consistently rated above the price class
- The rose-PVD blue config is the tasteful middle path between full-gold flash and plain steel (Monochrome's verdict)
Weaknesses
- high-contact surfaces everywhere
- T931's $2,395 price for a gold bezel on a $700-class watch drew value criticism from Monochrome at launch and has risen since
- White date disc breaks the dial's colour discipline on the PVD blue (Monochrome)
- No stated clasp micro-adjustment; 12 mm proprietary strap interface limits third-party options
